Cause:
This error typically happens when PayPal attempts to capture the payment from the customer. PayPal places a 72 hour hold on the customer's payment method to ensure the funds are available. After that 72 hour period the hold is released.
Recommended Resolution:
After that 72 hour period PayPal will attempt to capture funds up to 26 additional days for a total time of 29 days from the time and date the order was placed. This 29 Day period is set by PayPal and not the Ecommerce Platform.
After the 29 days there are a couple of available options.
- Your dealership can reach out to the customer and request your customer place the order again. Once the new order is placed have your dealership process the order. We can cancel the first order to remove it from the Order Manager.
- Your dealership can reach out to the customer, explain that it appears there was an unexpected error when attempting to charge their payment method and request that they provide the CC number over the phone. You can then charge the CC via your Service/Parts Counter POS. We can then update the order from the back end to remove it from your order manager's open orders.
We recommend the 2nd option as this takes the least effort on the customer's part and there is no risk of accidentally overcharging the customer.
